Ordering Dome Houses from China: MOQ, Lead Time and Payment Terms
Ordering a transparent dome house from a factory is a different kind of purchase from buying a glamping tent. The structure arrives as a prefabricated kit with rigid polycarbonate panels and an aluminium frame, it ships in a container, and it is installed by your own crew. That shape of order raises a specific set of questions: is there a minimum order? How long until it ships? What are the payment terms, and what actually protects the buyer?
This guide answers those questions with the terms STAR DOME works to, so you can plan a site or a resort purchase with real numbers instead of assumptions.
Do Dome Houses Have a Minimum Order Quantity?
For standard models, no. You can order a single 4 m dome to pilot a site before committing to a full camp. That matters more than it sounds. For a new glamping site, one unit lets you test guest response, achievable night rate and real occupancy before you scale up. If the location works, the second order is easy; if it does not, you have risked one unit instead of twelve.
Custom work is different. If you need a non-standard diameter, an oval or capsule shape, or your own branding on panels and packaging, ODM design work starts at 3 units per design. That threshold covers engineering and tooling time rather than materials.
Complete camp solutions — site layout, mixed model selection, staged delivery and installation — are quoted per project rather than against a unit minimum.
Dome House Lead Time from China
Two timelines matter, and confusing them is a common cause of missed opening dates.
Production lead time is the time from order confirmation to the goods being ready at the factory:
- Standard dome models: 3–4 weeks
- Custom sizes and special shapes: 5–7 weeks, including design review
- Complete camp solutions: scheduled by project milestone
Shipping time is separate and depends on destination and routing. A container loaded in Foshan moves by road to a port in Guangdong, then by sea. See our 40HQ loading and shipping guide for how the container is planned. Your quotation can be issued CIF or DDP for most destinations — send us your port and freight is included in the quote rather than estimated separately.
If you are working towards a fixed opening date, run site preparation in parallel with production. Ground work is usually the part that slips, not the dome itself — our foundation options guide covers the three common base types and their preparation times.
Payment Terms
Standard terms are 30% deposit by T/T with the balance before shipment. For orders above USD 20,000, an L/C at sight is accepted. Large camp projects can be structured on milestone payments tied to production and delivery stages rather than a single upfront commitment.
For a first order with a new supplier, the practical protections are worth more than the payment structure itself:
- A written quotation that specifies model, diameter, panel thickness, door and window configuration, and quantity — not just a price
- A loading plan issued before shipment, so you know exactly what is in the container
- Inspection before the balance is released
What Gets Checked Before Your Order Ships
Every aluminium frame and PC panel is QC-checked before packing. Production follows ISO 9001 quality management and the factory passes SGS audits. PC panels are UV-stabilized and comply with CE standards for building materials. Test reports are available on request.
The materials behind those checks:
- PC panels: 3-3.5 mm UV-protected polycarbonate, transmitting 80–90% of daylight while blocking UV and glare
- Frames: 6063-T5 aviation aluminium profiles covering the bottom ring and top peak, at 2.4 kg per frame section — heavier than the thin profiles used in lower-grade kits
If you want to verify a supplier rather than accept a datasheet, ask for the loading plan, the panel test report, and a video of the packing line for your specific order. Our dome house quality checklist lists the points worth inspecting on arrival.
How Many Domes Fit in a Container
One 40HQ container ships 30 sets of the 4 m model or 16 sets of the 6.2 m model. Please confirm the final loading quantity with us for your specific order. Because the kits pack flat, freight cost per unit falls sharply as quantity rises — which is why camps are normally purchased in batches rather than one dome at a time. If you are comparing quotations, always normalise them to a landed cost per unit; the price breakdown guide shows which line items belong in that calculation.
Installation: What Is Included
A 4 m dome assembles in about two hours with two people using basic hand tools — no crane and no specialist equipment. Every order includes a step-by-step manual, and our engineers join your first installation remotely. For camp-scale projects, turnkey installation crews are available. The five-step installation guide walks through what the crew actually does.
Warranty and After-Sales
Aluminium frames carry a 10-year structural warranty. PC panels are covered against yellowing and cracking for 20 years. Spare parts remain available long after delivery, and technical questions are answered within 12 hours on working days.
How to Compare Dome House Quotations
Quotations for the same nominal dome are rarely comparable as written. Before choosing, check that each one states:
- Panel thickness and grade — ask for the thickness in millimetres and whether the sheet is UV-coated; 3-3.5 mm UV-protected polycarbonate is not the same product as thin uncoated sheet
- Frame weight — profiles are sold by weight, and a lighter frame is the easiest place to cut cost invisibly
- What is excluded — windows, screen windows, flooring, foundation and installation are frequently quoted separately
- Delivery basis — FOB, CIF and DDP produce very different totals for the same goods
- Spare parts and warranty handling — who ships a replacement panel, and at whose cost
If a quote is well below the others, the difference is usually in one of these five lines rather than in the supplier’s efficiency.
FAQ
What is the minimum order for a dome house?
Standard models have no MOQ — a single 4 m dome can be ordered to pilot a site before scaling. Custom ODM shapes start at 3 units per design, and complete camp solutions are quoted per project.
How long does production take after I place an order?
Standard domes are ready to ship in 3–4 weeks from order confirmation. Custom sizes and special shapes take 5–7 weeks including design review. Shipping time is additional and depends on your destination port.
What payment terms do you accept?
Standard terms are a 30% deposit by T/T with the balance before shipment. L/C at sight is accepted for orders above USD 20,000, and larger camp projects can be structured on milestone payments.
What certifications does the factory hold?
Production follows ISO 9001 quality management and the factory passes SGS audits. PC panels are UV-stabilized and comply with CE standards for building materials. Test reports are available on request.
Do you provide 3D design before I commit to an order?
Yes. Our ODM service covers custom diameters, oval and capsule shapes, panel colours and branding on panels and packaging. Free 3D design and technical drawings are provided before you commit.
How do I get a quotation?
Send your destination port, the model or diameter you are considering, and the quantity. Every quotation includes a loading plan and can be issued CIF or DDP — request a quote here.
